which browser are you using as "default browser", try to make IE or firefox as your default browser and it should work?

1.0.0.5 I run the program and either double click the system tray icon, or right click it and select view inbox.  I am using fire fox 2.0.0.4

i am not sure if you are using any proxy settings in your pc? did you try it on some other pc which is not under same network. if you are using proxy then it wont work. Still trying to figure out the problem!

Can you please confirm the application behavior, does it really crashes or what after showing you this alert box?

 Does it opens your default browser (Firefox)?

The app doesn't crash.  It just gives the error message. No browser opens up at all.
