When you use the original gmail notifier to open a message, if you already had gmail open in a tab in firefox, it would maximize your firefox window to that tab rather than opening another gmail tab.  If it's not too hard to implement this as an option, it would be nice to keep from getting too many tabs open.

I think Google Apps behave differently than Gmail itself. As there is no way to authenticate (which i could find in free version of Google Apps) a user in  the browser automatically so notifier does not know whether a Gmail window is already open or not. Still there might be something coming up in future from Google.

 Related to this is perhaps something simpler to implement: I have Firefox set to open new links in tabs rather than windows, but I would like to make an exception when double clicking the Sohail Notifier icon. At the moment, it opens a new tab in the Firefox window I used last, is there any way to force Firefox to always open the link in a new window (whilst retaining the open in new tab setting for all other links)?

hmm... need investigation. As far as i know i tried setting "new links in new window" and it worked but the problem is that link in the existing tabs also open in a new window. There might be some fire-fox add ons to handle links and tabs etc.. if i find one i will let you know.
