It would be nice if there was a way to acknowledge the notifications so that you don't have to read the mail now but still be notified (by the green icon change) that a new message came in. I have a lot of unread mail in my mailbox and gmail notifier is only useful when I'm staring at my screen and see the little toast. I'd like to be able to see the green icon to know something new came in, acknowledge that I saw the notification (after seeing the email headers), and I'll worry about reading the mail later.
